Deaf-defying Josh Waterman
Published by Sparky Monkey, 2002
This is a true story about Josh, who was winning motocross competitions when he was 7 in spite of being deaf. Written by his aunt, and published in this quirky format, the book introduces us to Josh and all his family. There is little emphasis on Josh's deafness; all the attention is focused on his sporting abilities. The layout can be a little confusing, and some of the pictures are not well produced. But the book will appeal particularly to sporty boys, who will enjoy the pictures of Josh riding and of all his special equipment. He certainly is a boy who refuses to let his disabilities slow him down - an excellent role model.
