Katy is deaf and does an excellent job as a zoo keeper. We see all the ways she and her co-workers cope with her disability - lip reading, using signs, speaking clearly, etc., and we see the badge she wears to explain to the public that she is deaf. Throughout the book there are cartoon characters giving us basic facts, and the colour photos show us a positive young woman doing her job well.
