Linda's dad is on the dole. Loving though he is, there is no spare money for Linda to have a pound to go to the ballet with her class. And her dad is too proud to let her take the school's charity. Linda feels she must tell a lie to her teacher to explain why she isn't going. The lie escalates, and when dad is given a pound coin for helping a man, he gives it to Linda for her ballet treat.
