A smiling, normal teenager looks out from the cover of this book - cheeky, confident, and pretty. Joanne Gillespie survived two brain tumours and a stroke, and at 16 she had also survived the five years beyond that doctors never believed she would. Sadly, this is no longer true and Joanne died in August of 1993, not long after publication of this book. A sequel to Brave Heart (Century, 1989), written during her illnesses, Well, I'm still here is a miscellaneous collection of her experiences since - bouncy, optimistic and full of joie de vivre. If she dwells on her publicity and loves dropping names, she can be forgiven, and her positive nature is a shining example to others in her situation. A faith healing experience is central to this part of her story, which may not be to everyone's liking, but she and her family are convinced of its validity, and, certainly, God and positive thinking made a great difference in her life. In spite of her own sad ending, her optimism will make a positive difference to children and their parents suffering from the same harrowing experiences.
