Ed the puppy is afraid of the dark, so his parents suggest that he find a friend to sleep with. But the cat sleeps all day, the tortoise sleeps all winter, and the horse stands up to sleep. Poor Ed is worn out, but a friendly owl convinces him that the dark is nothing to be afraid of, and a new blue blanket - 'just like the night sky' - helps him sleep. A little simplistic, perhaps, but lovely, cuddly pictures, and Ed is loveable.
