Joe's family are all great swimmers, but he just can't do it. His brother and sister tease him, and he isn't happy. When a small frog hops into the pool and then can't get out, it is Joe who gently removes it when his family have managed to frighten the poor thing. As a bonus, Joe watches the frog's swimming technique and is soon full steam ahead. The main theme of the story, however, is Joe's dealing with his fear by helping the terrified little animal. Simple, but highly effective illustrations, interspersed with wavy lines of text that give a feel of flowing water add greatly to the story.
