Grorks are shy, and they frighten easily, but Greeps aren't shy at all, and the Grork and the Greep in this story are best friends. They do everything together, but when the Greep wants to go into the wood, the Grork takes a long time preparing. He is afraid of getting lost and of wind, fire, and floods, so he must take a large amount of equipment. How the two friends get on, how they meet the friendly Flurg, and how the Grork becomes brave in spite of his fears, learns to think brave thoughts, and comes through makes the remainder of this delicious picture book. The little Grork doesn't stop being shy and fearful - he still is - but he has learned to manage his fears. The pictures of all the various beasties are superb, and it is so acceptable for a Grork to be fearful rather than having to admit to being a shy and frightened child.
