What is contact? A guide for children ISBN: 9781903699591
Published by British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), 2004
A booklet aimed at children who are in foster care or have been adopted. The term 'contact' is explained and then different modes of contact with birth families are suggested: letters, postcards, telephone, video recordings, audiocassettes, email and texting, visits and meetings, presents and cards, photographs. Each of these is explained in some detail with individual children's stories of how they used each form. There is a section at the end on how arrangements are made for contact. The stories are moving and honest, and we learn much about how children feel about having contact with birth families, each child being different. There are questions throughout the booklet, and space for the child to write his or her own answers. An excellent publication for using with children in a special care situation. Available from BAAF Publications, Saffron House, 6-10 Kirby Street, London EC1N 8TS or Tel: 020 7421 2604.
