Claudia is very close to her grandmother Mimi. Mimi lives with Claudia's Japanese-American family, and she has always been a major influence in Claudia's life. Since having a stroke, Mimi has been a little confused and must be helped more than before, but Claudia is not expecting her death when it comes. Her friends in the Babysitters Club - all of whom knew and were fond of Mimi - rally round, but Claudia doesn't always understand her own feelings of anger and guilt. She is finally able to use her artistic talents to make a collage in memory of Mimi. There are harrowing but realistic scenes of Mimi in hospital, and the elderly Japanese lady is a fine character study. This is much better focused than many of the Babysitters Club series. Moving and believable.
