A very special book. Bessie and Grandma share a wonderful relationship. Grandma can do exciting things like taming birds and doing card tricks, and, best of all, she always has time for her granddaughter. Bessie dearly loves Grandma's 'speckled eyes like bird's eggs, bendy thumbs, and a crinkle at the top of her nose'. One day Grandma gets sick and dies, and even into adulthood Bessie misses her terribly. Her loving parents help all they can, but it is only when Bessie marries and has her own baby, Rose, that she sees again the speckled eyes, the bendy thumbs, and all the characteristics in her little girl that she loved so much in Grandma.
