The Colour Monster is very confused. He has become multicoloured; his feelings 'are all stirred together', so that is the reason for the different colours. Along comes a little girl who wants to help sort them out. Each feeling goes into a jar, and first she explains about yellow: 'This is happiness. It shines yellow like the sun and twinkles like the stars.' And so they go on through sadness, anger, fear, calm...and pink (!), which seems to be for embarrassment, because the Colour Monster has fallen in love with the little girl. Each of the emotions with their matching colour is given a short but lyrical sentence describing how the feeling feels inside and the whole is quite magical, the little monster most lovable. This is a charming introduction to a small range of emotions, useful for the very young as it is a board book.
