Brian is a white wooly ship with curly horns. When black sheep Rosa appears, they are soon playing happily 'round the field and over the little hill'. But then along comes black Stanley (with horns), and he only likes black sheep, so he won't play with Brian. This makes Brian sad. Other sheep soon join the fray, but they refuse to play with anyone who doesn't have horns. Life is getting complicated now, and it is Stanley who gets left out this time. Three more sheep appear, this time wearing stripy jumpers, and they refuse to play with either black or white sheep. By this time Brian has had enough: 'We are all sheep...we should all play together.' But the others now gang up on him and will only play with those sheep who have brown eyes, and Brian's are blue. He is left out again, and wanders off sadly. Until, that is, he meets a wolf! Oh dear, the others are now in danger, and he runs and runs to warn the. The wolf follows, of course, and chaos reigns as they all run in different directions. It is Brian who convinces everyone they can work together, and so they do, butting and biffing and using all manner of attack on the poor wolf, and soon he is running away 'never to be seen again'. Brian is a hero, and they all know that it is quite okay to be different. 'And the sheep all chased each other round and round the field and over the little hill...' Wonderfully clever and original.
