The wonderful Robert Starling has done it again with another Fergal, the dragon, book about getting into real trouble because of telling 'fibs'. But it isn't just fibs, like finding money on the street and claiming it as his own and blaming his little sister for knocking over the milk glass; this time he has kicked a football so hard it has broken the window in Bear's bakery. When his football coach confronts the team and asks if they know anything about the broken window, they all, including Fergal, say no. This is bad, but there is worse to come when Fergal overhears the coach tell someone that Fox has had to be sent home because 'he broke the window and didn't tell the truth.' Fergal begins to feel truly terrible. He's off his food and gets very cross and shouts when people ask if he is okay. When he meets Fox in the park crying and saying in all honesty he didn't do it, Fergal comes to an important decision. It makes him feel even worse and he feels as though he is 'carrying a heavy weight around', but he goes to the coach and confesses. The coach is very angry and tells Fergal he can't play football for the rest of the summer. He also must help Bear in the shop and, most important of all, he must say sorry to Fox. This is difficult, but he does it and writes him a letter too. They are soon friends again, but Fergal has learned an important lesson: fibs are wrong, so he turns them into stories which his friends can enjoy. Very forthright with great pictures and an important message.
