Charming, clever, lovable and, above all, to the point, this picture book shows us in rhyme and vibrant pictures the importance of being kind in all of life, particularly in ending sadness and anger. A very tiny blue dot is on a city street, looking for someone who will show him kindness. He finds a young boy with new trainers on and thinks they look nice, so he hops aboard. The boy welcomes him with a smile, and the tiny dot begins to grow for this 'dot' is kindness personified. When the boy walks through a puddle and gets his new shoes wet, he is sad until a girl comes along with a towel to give him, and the dot grows again. So it goes, and as the kind things continue, he gets bigger and bigger until he is huge and there is a great crowd following in his wake: They walked through the fields, The dot led the way. Behind them flowed kindness, throughout the whole day.' The Mayor of the town appears and offers ice creams at the sea side because of the wonderful day this is proving, and they all head towards the sea - whereupon another feeling develops in a little girl nearby, anger in the form of a great black cloud because she is not amongst the ones sharing in the kindness (and the ice cream!). Big Blue Kindness knows just what to do, though, and she is soon asked to join the crowd. 'Anger' subsides, and they all enjoy a wonderful time by the sea, leaving nothing behind except one tiny blue dot on the sand This is truly a joyful, sun-filled story that will convince everyone that a smile and a comforting or understanding word or action will do a world of good. Outstanding.
