While admitting all the good things about social media, the theme of this book is really about the negative things that happen to our minds when we let it take over our lives. There are excellent sections on fear of missing out (FOMO), feeling excluded, needing to be 'liked', body imaging, self-worth, cyberbullying, checking media during the night, and selfies, although this last section could have been more specific about how taking and sending personal selfies should be approached with great caution. The book goes on to consider ways of helping, including online (while emphasising quite rightly to be very careful here), taking tech breaks, and texting or messaging only people you know and can trust, and the good things about talking to people face to face: 'You can't have a hug on the phone'. There are check lists to help you decide if you are using media too much and how it is affecting you and lots of good advice. A glossary, a list of websites that could be helpful, and a section for parents, carers and teachers add much to the whole.
