Daisy's Dragons: A story about feelings ISBN: 9781787418974
Published by Studio Press, 2021
While other people have pet dogs or cats, Daisy has pet dragons, six of them, and they all exist in her mind. There is Happy, who is pink and always smiles, blue Calm, who is peaceful, fiery red Anger; Scared is nervous and jittery and light green, Sad, slow and silver and cries a lot, while the last dragon, Brave, is purple and very proud. Daisy loves her dragons and they are always with her, cuddled up and getting on with life. But one day when everything seems to be going wrong, Angry becomes fierce and ferocious and starts a chain reaction wherein three of the dragons - Calm, Brave, and Happy - are pushed about so much that they disappear in shock. Daisy is very angry with the other three and tells them what she thinks of their behaviour in no uncertain terms; they skulk off and she tries to bring back Happy but it doesn't work because she misses all her dragons. When they come back and ask for forgiveness, they explain just why they are important to her, making her understand their separate and opposite roles - roles that will become more governable as she gets older. Full of wisdom in simple terms, as well as rhyming couplets, and with brilliant vibrant illustration, this is a real winner.
