The title page o f this super picture book shows us pictures of Ravi and his little sister, Ruby, having a tussle over a toy car, and in his anger: 'Ravi found his body fizzing with crossness, which burst out of his foot like a bolt of lightning', and the car is broken. Sleep is difficult after this, and in the morning, Ravi finds that he has a well- and-truly-stuck red hat on his head - a Grumpy Hat. It won't come off, so Dad, a single parent who cooks, washes all the clothes and cleans the house, suggests that breakfast might help. It does a little, but not enough. Dad's next suggestion is a warm bath, which again helps some. Finally, Dad says Ravi should play outside, and that helps too, but still the hat is firmly attached to Ravi's head, and the Grumpy hat begins to turn into a Sad Hat. Dad and Ruby are sympathetic, but it is only Ravi who can find the answer to getting rid of the hat, which involves saying sorry to his sister. Soon the two of them are playing in the garden, wearing yellow stripy Happy Socks! A really lovely story about finding your own way when you have been wrong and hurtful.
