'Ravi was the youngest and the smallest in his family.' His older sister and two brothers are all bigger, and this means that Ravi can't do many of the things they do; this irritates him mightily. In the park, he can't find anyone in their game of hide and seek, the monkey bars are too high, he can't jump between the logs, and worst of all, he isn't allowed on the big slide because he's too small. Dad suggests ice cream, and this seems to be a good idea, except his siblings beat him to the ice cream kiosk, and when he gets there, there is none left. Oh dear, Ravi turns very red - and becomes a tiger! He roars and roars until one of his brothers gives him his ice cream, and soon Ravi is enjoying his power over the others, who give him a wide berth. In the end he recognises that playing by himself is not fun and says what is expected: 'I'm sorry'... said the tiger in a quiet voice.' And Dad says, 'Well done', and all is okay. He doesn't turn into a tiger ever again, but there is the occasional growl! A lovely story about love and understanding in this single-parent, black family, and the pictures say it all. This book is available from Amazon, even though there is no picture of the cover.
