The Colour of Happy ISBN: 9781444939675
Published by Hodder, 2019
A series of pages, each a different colour, takes a little boy and his dog through the colours that make up our emotions. ‘Blue is for the calm I feel wandering in the spring. Yellow is for happy when I spot a special thing.’ The special thing turns out to be a dandelion puff, but when the little boy picks it and it flies away, the colour is dark blue sadness which turns to red anger when he can’t catch it. Green is for envy when he sees a little girl with her own puff and turns to grey when he doesn’t believe he will be able to find another one. But the little girl is kind, and even though her puff also flies away, they share a golden time retrieving it. The little boy feels proud, and the page turns purple when he is able to take the puff home and then orange at his excitement because of what comes next! The by now rather dilapidated puff is a gift for mum, a gift of love that makes the page turn pink. A happy story with lovely rhymes, this is the perfect way to describe our feelings and how they affect our lives. Super!
