This is a simple story that will work nicely with young children who have had traditional stories and poems read to them. Ava hates her glasses, and when one day in class her teacher asks her where they are, she starts to cry. Her understanding teacher puts a big book down in front of her and explains that ' If only Little Red Riding Hood had put on her glasses...she would have seen the big teeth and big eyes.' Then there are Hansel and Gretel, who would have been able to go home if only they could have seen clearly. Humpty Dumpty surely wouldn't have fallen from the wall if he had had his glasses on. Nor would Bo-Peep have lost her sheep. How about Miss Muffet and the spider? Ava is convinced and pulls out her glasses from her bag. Now she can see clearly to read the stories herself. The illustrations are all from the stories and poems that Ava sees in the book in front of her, and they are beautifully done. Not all the stories and poems are exactly as they are in traditional children's literature, but that only makes them funnier. This should convince the most determined spectacle hater!
