Jerry feels invisible. No one seems to notice him. They never say sorry when they bump into him; nor do they laugh at his jokes or choose him for team games. It's as though he isn't there. This makes him sad and lonely. 'Jerry hated feeling invisible, but he didn't want to stand out either.' Then Molly becomes his friend, and he discovers they can share in all sorts of ways - and she even laughs at his jokes. 'She made him feel a real person.' When he meets Paul, who also seems to be invisible, he realises that he and Molly can help Paul feel a real person too.
