Prince George in this story has parents who are already king and queen, but it doesn't hurt a bit to use our Prince George's name to make a point! This prince still wears a nappy as well as his crown and plays happily around the palace with his stick horse and the corgis. He is a polite prince who eats his meals and smiles at the ladies in waiting, and everyone is very fond of him. But when the queen suggests that he might stop wearing nappies, he isn't sure what to do, and when his big cousin - a knight who hunts dragons - tells him he can come with him on his exciting adventures, George discovers he can't wear armour because of his bulky nappies. This sends him off to find a potty, but when he does, he doesn't know what to do with it. The next problem comes about when he tries to march with the Royal Guards and they start fainting from the terrible smell emanating from his nappy! He is determined to use the potty: 'But try as he might, he was baffled. He still couldn't work the daft thing! So he had an enormous royal tantrum. The sergeant cried, 'Quick! Fetch the King!' The King is most understanding and tells him to get a book to read while sitting on the potty and all else will come naturally. So he does and - 'Hey Presto! The first royal wee!' So Prince George (and us as well) learns that using a potty is a very good thing and makes all sorts of adventures possible. The illustrations are fantastic, literally, and full of fun and very bright colour. The picture of cousin Brian the knight with his horse with a baby car seat on its haunches and a dragon lurking nearby is unforgettable. This is a really happy, jolly picture book with rhyming text that will be fun to read and pictures to cause lots of laughs and giggles. Super!
