In My Heart: A Book of Feelings ISBN: 9781419713101
Published by Abrams Books, 2014
A beautifully crafted book full of all sorts of feelings, this will be enjoyed by children as much for the page-turning pleasure of finding what is behind the next cut-out heart as it will be for the lyrical language of the text. Feelings are inside our hearts, and in the case of this book, this can be taken literally. On the first page (card not paper in this case) we are told 'My heart is like a house, with all these feelings living inside.' The feelings explained in such lovely language and pictures are happiness, bravery, anger, calmness, hurt feelings, sadness, hopefulness, fear, silliness, shyness, and feeling proud. Each two page spread holds a paragraph of text and pictures of a small girl that are evocative of the feelings expressed and with something of a vintage feel about them. This is an extraordinary picture book and will last and last due to its sturdy pages - a good thing as one suspects it will be read over and over. Translated from the French.
