The animals in this story are not exactly bullies, but they are certainly unkind and need to be taught a lesson! When the platypus bus drives up to the zoo, the little platypus that emerges with invitation in hand doesn't realise that there are to be interviews today for new zoo inmates. He is ushered through by the tiger, who sends him first to a very laid-back and uninterested panda, who states: 'I'm special, rare and famous too. To get me here was quite a coup. But you don't even eat bamboo! I think, this zoo is not for you.' The little platypus looks a tad confused, but is moved on to the pink egrets, the monkeys (who throw poo at him!) the chameleons, and the elephant, all of whom make very unkind comments about him and claim he has 'failed' the interview. Off he goes, back to the platybus, with his head held high! But he has dropped the invitation, and the animals soon learn that he had only wanted to invite them to a party on the bus. They are horrified at what they have done and make their way out of the zoo to ask for pardon and to join in the fun. The platypuses, being jolly sorts, forgive the animals, and one only hopes they have learned their lessons for the next round of interviews. Children who make unkind remarks about their friends and classmates should learn the lesson too! Great rhymes and illustrations make the lesson pill easier to take.
