Completely dialogue based as to text and finished with a wipeable cover, this book will be ideal for dental surgery waiting rooms! The very colourful pictures show us two different families having dental treatment. In the first one, a little boy runs to the treatment room because he 'loves' the chair that goes up and down. He is there for a check-up, and the dentist tells him that when he is an adult he will have 32 teeth, but now he has only 20. He is shown an electric toothbrush that buzzes when he turns it on, and the dentist explains just how to brush his teeth and that he need a soft toothbrush. The dentist also explains about tooth decay and what can cause it. In the second family, the little boy is having a filling, and he asks how that can have happened when he brushes his teeth regularly. The dentist (female this time) explains that even the best brushed teeth can sometime develop holes. We see the dentist's mask and the little boy asks if the procedure will hurt. Not with some gel on the gum, she replies. We see the drill and the suction tube being used, and when the dentist finishes filling the cavity, the boy says it feels strange to his tongue. We see the dentist putting details on the computer, and the little boy using mouthwash. This really is an excellent book to explain just what happens at the dentist. The text is very simple and easy to understand, but it covers everything necessary for children experiencing the dentist for the first time, and the illustrations are friendly, colourful and right on. Great stuff!
