My Visit to the Optician: (Reading Roundabout) ISBN: 9780749674663
Published by Franklin Watts Ltd, 2008
Sarah has to wear glasses to read, and one day her mum takes her and her brother to the optician so Sarah's eyes can be tested. Sarah and her family are taken to the eye test room, and we watch as Sarah must read the large and small letters on the eye chart. Then there is the bright light that the optician shines into Sarah's eyes while she looks in every direction. Next comes a big machine that tries out different lenses for Sarah's eyes and she must tell him which lenses work the best. She needs new glasses, so the assistant measures her up for them and shows her frames. Pink ones are chosen, much to Sarah's delight, and then we see the frames being sent off to have the new lenses inserted. Sarah is very proud and pleased with her new glasses, and so is her dad! The fact that this is a black family might be useful for some to know. The information is very basic, but good and the very large print will be excellent for new readers, as well as for those with sight problems.
