Enormouse is very, very big, and he finds this worrying. Why is he so large? The other mice love him, and he loves them, and they enjoy games together. His size can be a plus too. He can reach things the little ones can't, and he is very good at carrying big pieces of cheese. He also carries the little mice when they get tired. One day when he and his friend Tinymouse find a book with a picture of a rat in it, they become convinced that the reason Enormouse is so big is that he is actually a rat. When the other mice hear this, they think it is terribly funny, and poor, sad Enormouse decides to leave the cosy mouse house and find some rats to live with. The rat house he is welcomed into is not what he is used to. Dirty and messy, it isn't at all comfortable, and Enormouse decides he has been a bit hasty. Meanwhile, the little mice are missing Enormouse dreadfully and want him back home. In a body, they go off to find him, get lost and are rescued by the kind Enormouse who is delighted to see them. It all ends happily, and our mice friends learn that size doesn't matter and that being different can be a very good thing. With intimations of 'The Ugly Duckling', this gentle and lovely picture book will be a great addition to any school or home library.
