As pandas are known to be rather shy creatures, making them the hero and heroine of this lovely picture book is very appropriate. Panda and Pandora live next door to each other at numbers 1 and 2 Bamboo Gardens, and they long to get to know each other. But each time an opportunity arises, they run away and hide. They discover that playing ball on one's own is not exciting, and 'it wasn't much fun on a see-saw that went down but didn't go up'. When snow comes, making snowballs by oneself is definitely a non-starter, but each of them begins to worry about the other. Perhaps they are ill. 'Two very worried pandas wondered if they might be brave enough to go next door and say, Are you all right?' In gentle rhymes and enchanting illustrations we see that all ends well, and they plan to be 'friends for ever and ever'.
