In the context of a story, Sam learns about idioms and how to work out their meanings. He finds confusing such phrases as 'bend over backwards' and 'full of beans' and his parents find ways of explaining these non-literal expressions to him. For a picture book, the story is quite long (64 pages) and, hence, covers a large number of idioms both in the story itself and in a comprehensive list at the end. In a step by step approach, Sam learns how to work out the meanings for himself, and clear instructions are given to parents and teachers about the best way to approach the task. The author, an occupational therapist, has thought through her system well, and the book should be of real use to parents and in schools. The pictures are helpful contextually.
