Food Allergy (Explaining) ISBN: 9780749682606
Published by Franklin Watts, 2008
One of an impressive series of books on various health problems and disabilities, this book covers in detail such topics as the history of food allergies; the difference between food aversion, intolerance and allergy; the signs of an allergic reaction; the most common foods causing it; a discussion of anaphylaxis; testing for food allergy; avoiding and treating the problem; the role of genetics, the problems of living with food allergies; and what lies ahead in the development of possible treatments on GM foods that might help solve the problem. It is an interesting read, full of photos, diagrams, case studies and lots of detailed facts that I have not come across before. With a good index, glossary and list of websites, it will be useful for schools, but also for families with a child diagnosed with a food allergy and wanting solid information about it.
