Little otter Scramble makes list of things he can and can't do. The can-do list is quite long, but his can't do list contains only the single word 'swimming'. Bear and Beaver are dismissive: 'Whoever heard of an otter who can't swim?' Mummy is supportive: 'Today's the day you're going to crack it!' But he doesn't, and it is big sister who takes him in hand and explains that he must start small. Day by day and little by little he takes a step at a time until finally - success! Scramble's self-esteem takes a battering when his friends make fun of him, but he comes up trumps thanks to his supportive family and his own determination. The illustrations are lovely - full of flowers and insects and fish, and a friendly frog that follows Scramble through all his adventures. A super book.
