Poor Patrick! When he wakes up one morning completely pink, he is sure it's a mistake. Penguins are never pink, particularly boy penguins. The doctor can't help, but when Patrick's dad shows him pictures of pink flamingos, Patrick concedes that there must be some pink boys in the world. At school he is teased, and, fed up, he swims away to Africa to join the flamingos. They are pleased to meet him, but he soon discovers he can't eat the way they do, or sleep on one leg, or fly away to the nesting place in the evening. Back home he swims to a hero's welcome at school, where he must tell of his adventures. Of course, he discovers that being different isn't so bad after all, and that his friends accept him as he is. The pictures are strong and simple and very effective. Great fun!
