Elephant is the biggest young animal at playschool. He knocks over Lion's blocks, sits on Hyena's book, ruins Mouse's painting, and breaks the swing. After having to be extricated from the slide, he is told by the others that he's 'too big'. But inside, Elephant feels 'very small and sad'. He tells Mouse, his chief tormentor: 'I am just the right size, I know because my mummy told me so!' When the class has a singing lesson, it is Elephant who sings 'beautifully loudly', and all the others admire his talent. At going home time, all the animals get a cuddle from their mums and dads, but Elephant gets the biggest cuddle of all. Full page illustrations in blues, yellows and orange are full of life.
