Wesley is different from the other children. He doesn't like pizza or fizzy drinks or football, and he doesn't like the housing estate he live on, where all the houses are alike. Because he has no friends (but lots of bullies), he decides to set himself a summer project - to create his own civilization, Weslandia. He digs his garden, and seeds are blown in that grow into huge red-flowered plants, and with these, Wesley makes his own world. It is so successful that other children become interested, and soon Weslandia is peopled with friends. A wonderfully exotic world it is too, full of lushness and plenty, and Wesley proves to himself and others the validity of doing one's own thing. A stunning picture book.
