Rosie doesn't like her new school, and she especially doesn't like Roland Roberts, who has been asked to look after her. In letters to her grandfather she tells him all about the awful things Roland does. Then they discover a mutual liking for toy cars, the joys of sledging and making snowmen together, and Roland promises to give her one of his pet rat's babies. She even learns to quite like being called 'Ginger'. They end up being Mary and Joseph in the Christmas play. Good fun, and the illustrations have a nice wry touch.
