The little fox and his mum have a lovely, lively day playing games together. But when mum says it is time to go home, the little fox says he's not coming. When mum explains they can play again tomorrow, little fox says, 'I'm not going to be your friend again...ever'. Mum, with gentle philosophy, plays along, and soon the sights and sounds of the coming night convince little fox that mum is his safe haven and his friend after all. Lewis' gentle, naturalistic pictures show us real foxes in glorious countryside, but the emotions are pure toddler-style human.
