This is a complex and detailed book about drugs - really aimed at older teenagers - but good readers in year 7 could handle it. An introduction explains how drugs work, the effect on health, addiction, and how drug taking affects society. Individual chapters on specifice types of drugs pull no punches, and while pros and cons are listed, the personal stories make the dangers quite clear. We are given common and chemical names of drugs, short and long-term effects, withdrawel symptoms, and how each drug is produced. Smoking, caffeine and alcohol are included, as well as solvents and nitrites. This will be useful for adults as well as youngsters. An excellent introduction.
