Anna isn't big enough yet for school, and she certainly isn't big enough to go to work, but mum says it is time for her to go to playgroup and make friends. There are some worries: who will put her shoes on; perhaps no one will like her; perhaps she should just stay home. When they get there, Anna meets another new child, Tom, and together they comfort some crying teddies, who may just be missing their mums. Soon Anna and Tom are in the thick of things, doing all the happy activities that all the others do. They help the play leader at milk and biscuits time and have forgotten all about their apprehensions. Very honest, very reassuring, and lovely fun.
