Gramps has Parkinson's Disease; Grandma has Parkinson's Disease
Published by Parkinson's Disease Society of the U.K., 2000
These two booklets are exactly alike except for the sex of the grandparent. There is lots of excellent basic information about how Parkinson's Disease affects the person and how the child can help. For instance, that Gramps walks with a shuffle, eats slowly, speaks softly and sometimes has difficulty smiling, and that the grandchildren need to be patient and careful about sudden movements, etc. Naive colour illustrations have a child-like quality, and there is a set of line drawings tucked into the back flap of the booklet for children to colour. A good, positive approach. Available from: Sharwood Services, Westerfield Business Centre, Main Road, Westerfield, Ipswich, Suffolk IP6 9AB (Tel: 01473 212115).
