When Ellie's mum must go to hospital, Ellie goes to stay with her Nanna. She is sad, but she and Nanna soon find things to do at the beach. While there, they find a tiny kitten, which they take home and look after. Ellie hopes no one will claim the kitten, but Nanna says they must find out if she has a home. Ellie calls the kitten Butterfly because of a mark on its nose, and the two of them have lovely times together. When someone phones to say the kitten may belong to them, Ellie and Nanna take her along. Sure enough, Butterfly runs to her mother cat, and Ellie suddenly wants her own mum 'more than anything in the world'. Mum soon comes, and Ellie realises that little cats and little girls need their mothers. Beautiful water colour illustrations make this a lovely production.
