My little grandmother often forgets ISBN: 9780763619893
Published by Candlewick Press, 2007
Tom's grandmother has become very forgetful - sometimes of small things, her ring or her glasses, but then of more important things, such as turning off the gas ring or why she has gone shopping. Tom likes to help her, and even when she calls him by his father's name, he is patient and understanding. When she moves in with his family, she is often confused, but happy to be with Tom. The text, all in rhyme, is gentle and positive, and the pictures show us a young-looking grandmother, who dresses well and looks not at all like a 'little old lady'. The illustrations are full of family warmth and caring, and the story will be of real use to children facing a live-in relative with Alzheimer's or similar memory problems. A lovely production.
