Polly's running away book ISBN: 9780747550891
Published by Bloomsbury, 2000
Ninety-six pages of diary from a stroppy and very funny little girl, who is having to face up to a missing pet hamster, a best friend who's gone off her, and - most of all - a mum who is having a baby. One sister is quite enough for Polly, and she decides to run away - on 75 pence and a Double Decker chocolate bar. We get a running commentary on the ups and downs of Polly's financial situation as she tries to save up for her trip, ditto on her relationship with best/worst friend Kelly, lots about school and family, and final resolution when the baby arrives and Polly gets to name him. The black and white pictures are unique - montages on every page, full line drawings, graphics and photographs, all redolent of what is happening in Polly's life. An easy read, which will appeal because of its style and content.
