The truth about babies ISBN: 9780192723444
Published by Oxford University Press, 1999
This is a somewhat negative look at what it is like to have a baby in the family, but there is a positive ending. Some of the negatives are not absolutely true - such as mum's suddenly becoming a manic tidier right before the baby is born and that grown ups like getting up in the middle of the night! The suggestion that the child might want to set an alarm clock to wake baby during the day might not go down well with some mums either. However, the colourful, comic pictures will appeal, and the book is certainly honest about the feelings babies engender in older siblings and about the general noisiness, smelliness and attention-getting aspects of babies.
