The older little girl is very excited when baby Susan comes home: 'She's ever so tiny and ever so cute'. The 'ever so's' begin to pile up then: Susan is ever so like mum, or dad, or 'thingy off the telly'. Dad says she's ever so clever when she fills her nappy eight times in one day. Auntie Debbie says she's ever so strong when she grips her finger. Mum says she's ever so active. The older little girl does twelve head over heels and no one sees her, and she begins to think Susan isn't so cute after all. When she does a poo in the bath because Susan has done one and dad said she was 'ever so talented', the little girl is sent to her room. But when a nurse comes and sticks a needle in the baby's foot and she screams, everyone cries except the little girl who cuddles and rocks Susan until she falls asleep. She is now ever so good and brave, and 'mum and dad say Susan is ever so, ever so lucky to have a big sister like me'. The expressive pictures show us exactly what the little girl is feeling and thinking. A gem of a story.
