Being in hospital with your leg broken in two places and having to lie flat for four weeks, doesn't sound like a barrel of laughs, but this is one of the funniest books around. Eleven year old Jack is accident-prone, and when he knocks over a tower of tinned tomatoes in the local supermarket, pinning an elderly customer to the floor, he is convinced he will be wanted for murder. His flight from said supermarket results in the broken leg and his adventures in the children's ward. Just how he manages adventures when lying flat on his back is a mystery known only to the author's imagination, but he does, he does. We meet Jack's bemused family, his cohort in crime Liam, the 'alien' Maisie, and Princess La-La otherwise known as Kirsty, who amongst them create chaos. This not-too-long novel will provide barrels of humour and understanding to young hospital patients, and others will enjoy it too. Black and white line drawings add to the fun.
