A compilation of the best entries in a competition to write stories and poems and draw pictures in aid of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. The framework for all the entries was that there is a group of teddies at the hospital, left behind by their young owners, able to walk and talk, but seen only by the children. This brilliant plot brought 1500 entries with all sorts of original ideas about how the Bear Brigade operates. Jocelyn Stevenson was then left with the problem of linking the winners all together as a single cohesive (more or less) story, which she does most convincingly. Written by children for children, it is beautifully produced, and while in no way preparation for a stay in hospital, it will be reassuring while there. All proceeds go towards the hospital.
