Little mouse Maisy falls from her trampoline while bouncing one day and must be taken to hospital by her friend Charley the crocodile. She has an x-ray, which show that she has broken her leg. Doctor Duck applies a plaster cast and then tells Maisy she must stay in hospital for one night. On the children's ward, Maisy's leg is raised up in a sling, and she meets Dotty, a friendly donkey in the bed opposite. Maisy feels a little 'strange being away from home,' but she and Dotty are soon friends, and next morning when Tallulah and Cyril arrive for a visit, Maisy shares their gifts with Dotty. Maisy is allowed home that day after being shown how to use crutches, and she says 'get well soon ' to Dotty. Maisy is such a well-known character in children's picture books that most children will repond happily to Maisy's hospital experience and get much comfort from it. Lots of nice, simple picture detail and lovely, vivid colours.
