This is one for children who dislike wearing their glasses - a cautionary tale about what can happen if you don't! Mr Jack is a small dog who works in an office along with a nice mouse secretary called Miss Jones. One night, in a hurry to get home for something special, he leaves his glasses behind. The mishaps that follow are quite outrageous, but Mr Jack sails through them not understanding he is in a sewer not a subway, a zoo not a park and a banana truck instead of a bus. Miss Jones follows behind in a vain attempt to catch up and hand over the forgotten glasses, but when he stumbles into an opticians, believing it to be a cafe, all becomes clear. He takes all his new accumulated friends home to share in the special something - his huge birthday cake. The illustrations are full of animals doing quite unanimal-like things - driving cars and buses, working at various jobs - and the humourous detail is terrific. The pictures can, however, be a little confusing, so not appropriate for the youngest children.
