We are never told that Dan is blind, but it is Diesel, the 'Wonder dog', who goes everywhere with Dan, who never flinches at loud noises, and who is only happy when Dan is there, that gives us the clue. When Diesel is nicked by a gang of baddies, Dan is bereft. But he hasn't counted on Diesel's many talents..... The story, told by Dan's younger brother, is warm-hearted without being the slightest bit sentimental, and tells in a humourous way the life-enhancing relationship of a blind boy and his guide dog. The pictures are huge fun, full of collage, integrated text, and colour - as well as gray and black when Dan and Diesel dream about the possibility of life without each other. This is a splendid, moving and positive picture book.
