George has meningitis ISBN: 9781902463919
Published by Red Kite (Doctor Spot Case Book series), 2003
Baby George Gorilla becomes very ill one night, and it is his big sister Gloria who remembers from school that a rash, a fever and cold hands and feet can mean a serious illness (she can't remember the name). Mr Gorilla phones Doctor Spot, who comes immediately and uses the glass test on George's rash. Rushed off to hospital, he gets the best of care, and Doctor Spot explains in simple terms to Gloria just what meningitis is. George gets well, due to Gloria's quick thinking. The brightly coloured illustrations of animals help make the story memorable and there are 2 pages of detailed information for parents at the end of the book. One of an excellent series on all sorts of childhood ailments, this story is recomended by the Meningitis Association of Scotland and The Patients Association.
